RIVEROAK would like to congratulate Jennifer Byrd for being this week's Career and Technical Education Instructor Spotlight. Byrd is in her 36th year and serves as the Business Keyboarding, Digital Information Technology and Graphic Design teacher at Suwannee Middle School. Byrd says, “I have taught a lot of different subjects and grade levels over the last 36 years. About 15 years ago the technology position came open at SMS and I jumped on the chance to teach this area. I had always incorporated technology into my other classes I taught so it seemed like the best thing to do at the time.” Byrd shares, “Technology is all around us - the students have actually grown up with it. Things are changing every day. They need to take an active roll to stay up with the times. Keyboarding skills are such a necessity in so many careers. Businesses use Microsoft Office programs and it is truly amazing to watch my students earn postsecondary certifications. Instructor Jeremy Ulmer praises William's quick learning and natural talent for CAD programs and design, noting that he's the first this year to achieve his Solidworks CSWA certification. Ulmer shares, “William is a quick learner and has a natural aptitude for CAD programs and design. He is the first this year to receive his Solidworks CSWA certification.” William's journey at RIVEROAK showcases not only personal growth but also the practical application of his education for a brighter future. Williams says, “I can use this education to get a better job. This class helped define a part of my intelligence that I never thought I had. Culinary adventure with ESL students at RIVEROAK! An enriching afternoon unfolded as students from the ESL program at RIVEROAK Technical College joined forces with the Professional Culinary Arts and Hospitality program! The focus of the day was learning the art of making pasta, with students guided through the step-by-step process. 🍝 The final product was a delicious masterpiece! Jernigan is in her 6th year at Suwannee Middle School and serves as the Introduction to Architecture and Construction, Fundamentals of Architecture and Construction and Applied Engineering teacher. Congratulations Kinsey Goodman, RIVEROAK's Student Spotlight! Kinsey, a dedicated Cosmetology student, has earned this week's spotlight for her outstanding commitment to her studies. Nominated by her instructor, Janie Maxwell, says, “Kinsey’s attendance is excellent, grades are tops of the program and her attitude is beyond measure. Kinsey is in a class full of talent, so that says a lot about her. She makes it a pleasure to teach everyday.” Choosing RIVEROAK and the Cosmetology program was a decision inspired by Kinsey's passion for beauty and making people feel happy and beautiful. She shared, “I asked around and I heard back from many people about RIVEROAK and all the great things including the staff and Cosmetology program. Growing up I always loved hair, clothes and all things beauty. When I worked a my mom’s daycare, I would always braid the little girls hair and it would make them so happy. That’s when I decided I wanted to do something that made people feel beautiful and happy.” Looking ahead, Kinsey plans to work in a place that will help her grow as a cosmetologist, with the ultimate goal of starting her own business.
