Tammy currently serves as the Coding Fundamentals, Web Design and Broadcasting Instructor at Suwannee Middle School. Tammy's journey in education began with a passion for teaching that emerged during her kindergarten years. Over the years, she explored various subjects, teaching math, serving as a media specialist, and eventually finding her calling in teaching Computer Science and running the esports program. Neil says, “From the moment I started Kindergarten, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I did not always know what I wanted to teach. I started teaching math because I loved finding answers. I became a Media Specialist because the school I was at needed someone with computer skills. I started teaching Computer Science about 10 years ago. I finally discovered where I should be teaching. The fact that I get to also run the esports program is an added bonus for me.” Tammy's dedication to shaping the future through education is truly commendable. An eclipse of the sun will occur on April 8, 2024, and will be visible across our area with a 60% coverage. While no observers in Florida will be in the path of totality, we will see about 60% of the sun covered. During the eclipse, looking directly at the sun could cause permanent eye damage and blindness. The eclipse will start here at around 1:45 p.m. EST, with the peak at around 3:00 p.m.; it will end at about 4:20 p.m. SCSD will not organize eclipse viewing for students present on April 8, 2024. Teachers are not permitted to take students outside during the eclipse. The only exception is that during dismissal, we will ask SCSD personnel to remind students to not look directly at the eclipse. We request that parents remind their children of the potential dangers of prolonged visual exposure to the eclipse. To safely view the eclipse, use one of the following techniques: Wear eclipse glasses or hand-held solar viewers that meet the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard. Ordinary sunglasses are NOT safe for viewing the eclipse. Watch the eclipse on a live stream or television broadcast rather than in person.
