Due to the severe line of storms that came through the area this morning, and the resulting mass power outages that have occurred, the Suwannee County School District will be releasing school early today, Friday, May 10. Bus routes will begin to run at 12:30. Student drivers will be dismissed as soon as school administration deems it safe to do so. Parents and guardians are welcome to return to schools to check-out students at any time. All students are excused. Please make arrangements to have a responsible adult home at the time buses arrive to drop students off at their home. For younger bus riding students that do not have someone at home, those students may be returned to one of two locations for pick-up by a parent/guardian. Buses will run their routes slower than usual and may be significantly delayed due to downed trees. Please be patient. The designated pick-up location for after hours reunification of younger elementary students are at two locations: -Branford Elementary School for students in the south end of the District. -Suwannee Pineview Elementary for all Live Oak elementary schools.

Congratulations to Stacy Young for being recognized as this week's Career and Technical Education Instructor Spotlight! With 26 years of teaching experience and a passion for agricultural education, Stacy embodies dedication and commitment to her students and community. Young says, “My high school agriculture teacher, Dr. Dale Layfield, inspired and motivated me to pursue a career in agricultural education. Agriculture is the industry that feeds us, clothes us, provides shelter for us and everything else needed for life.” It is clear that she not only imparts knowledge but also inspires and motivates her students, much like her own high school agriculture teacher did for her. RIVEROAK's industrial programs were represented and in addition, RIVEROAK's Practical Nursing program offered a first aid station for those in attendance. Participating in events like Build My Future is a fantastic way to showcase the diverse range of programs and opportunities available at RIVEROAK. Providing information about the programs helps students make informed decisions about their future careers. RIVEROAK is now accepting applications for the Articulated Nursing Assistant program! This program is 7 weeks in length, meeting Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Program fee with scholarship: $133.00 (cost savings of $1,217.00!) Tuition supported by RTC College Scholarship (must complete scholarship application to qualify). Applicants will be required to submit to a drug test and background screening. Earn your Certified Nursing Assistant credential! Postsecondary Certificate Completers of Articulated program are eligible to work in any healthcare setting. Program begins June 3rd and ends July 30th.

Congratulations to Jesus Ayala for being selected as this week's Student Spotlight! Ayala's outstanding performance in the Automotive Collision Technology Technician Program at RIVEROAK has earned him well-deserved recognition. Nominated by his instructor, Charles Dickinson, Ayala's remarkable skills and quick learning ability have been evident since his first year in the program. His proficiency in repairing metal and plastic, as well as his aptitude for painting, have set him apart. Dickinson says, “Jesus is a ninth grade student, in his first year and he has caught on very quick. He is very good at repairing metal and plastic. He has also gotten good with painting. At SkillsUSA this year, he placed 4th at regionals and 2nd at state.” Ayala's passion for the automotive industry and his hands-on approach to learning have been evident since childhood. His decision to pursue further education at RIVEROAK reflects his commitment to honing his skills and advancing in his chosen field. Ayala says, “I have always been hands-on and I like the automotive industry since I was little.” As Ayala looks toward completing the program, his goal is to continue his journey in the automotive collision repair industry. With his talent, dedication, and determination, there's no doubt that Ayala will achieve great success in his future endeavors. These four students - Arianna Alvarez Medina, Lainet Fernandez Acosta, Neithan Menjivar Vasquez and Zoyma Rodriguez Duenas - have demonstrated an extraordinary level of dedication and resilience by successfully completing both the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program and the English as a Second Language (ESL) program simultaneously. Spending seven hours a day on campus, in addition to managing their personal schedules and possibly working, reflects their dedication to achieving their academic goals. Their ability to balance multiple responsibilities and commitments showcases their maturity, discipline, and strong work ethic. Their success is not only a testament to their own efforts but also to the support and guidance provided by their instructors, such as Maria Toledo-Garcia. The encouragement and mentorship offered by educators play a crucial role in helping students overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
