Adult Basic Education
This program (ABE) provides literacy instruction for students preparing to enroll in diploma seeking courses, to meet the academic standards of technical training programs at RTC or local community college, or to prepare for employment.
This course is for students scoring below 9.0 in any area of the TABE.

Adult Education Programs
Diploma by Test (GED ®): The State of Florida high school diploma (GED ®) test is given weekly at RTC. Persons seeking assistance to prepare for the GED ® exam may enroll in classes. The classes cover the four content areas of the GED ® exam: math, reasoning through language arts, science, and social studies. Classes are available day and evening at several locations in Suwannee County. The cost is $30 per semester.
ADULT BASIC EDUCATION Students preparing to take the GED ®, preparing for employment, or for personal goals may need: Adult Basic Education classes. This program provides literacy instruction for students scoring below 9.0 grade level on the TABE test. Classes provide intensive instruction in the basic skills of reading, mathematics and language arts. Class fees are $30.00 per Semester. Evening classes are available at several locations in Suwannee County.
HOW TO ENROLL Take the TABE test. There is NO charge for the test. Shortly after the test, meet with the counselor to review scores, discuss goals and prepare a schedule. For testing dates, contact Student Services at (386) 647-4210.
GED ® Diploma Option
RTC is a test site for the GED ® exam. Contact Student Services for specific criteria for testing. Persons 16 years of age or older and seeking assistance to prepare for the GED ® exam may enroll in the course General Education Development.
A ninth grade TABE score is required to be enrolled in a GED ® class.
Students below ninth grade on TABE will prepare for the GED ® with a pre-GED ® class called Adult Basic Education. The program is open entry/open exit, self-paced, and available in day and night classes. Content in the GED ® preparation course includes the four areas of the GED ® exam – math, reasoning through language arts, science, and social studies.
Adult students who have never taken the GED ® will be enrolled in the GED ® Preparatory Comprehensive course. Students who have taken the GED ® will be referred to the subject matter specific course to prepare for re-testing.
Other Programs
Adult English Language Learners:
The English Literacy and Civics 3 Education class serves individuals who need basic skill building in the English language. Child care may be available through local agency collaboration. Students in this program may be served through this special class or through the other adult general education programs. Emphasis is placed on speaking and reading the English language.
Adult General Education for Adults with Disabilities:
The purpose of this course is to provide specialized adult general education for adults with disabilities who may need intensive, on-going support. Instruction in literacy, work-related behaviors, and daily living skills are provided that will enable the students to participate in home and community activities, and reach desired personal goals including work.
