SHS Ag Program Spotlight

In honor of CTE Month, we are highlighting Suwannee High School's Agricultural Program, which specializes in Horticulture, Forestry, and Animal Science. Students in Horticulture classes learn skills related to landscaping and floriculture. Students in the Forestry program are supported by the local Forest Service as they are exposed to skills needed for the Forestry industry. Animal Science classes expose students to a variety of livestock, their selection, care, and the processing of products. Agricultural Education is a three-circle model that includes classroom/land laboratory instruction, FFA leadership programs, and Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE) that students conduct beyond school hours. Suwannee High School has a 40-acre land laboratory where the following commodities are raised: blueberries, blackberries, Satsuma, pears, chestnuts, persimmons, pecans, sugar cane, bananas, cattle, and chickens. Some student SAE livestock projects are also housed at the land lab. The FFA chapter is recognized as a 3-Star Chapter by the National FFA Organization. FFA chapter accomplishments include a state-winning Livestock Evaluation Team in 2024 and multiple State Proficiency Award winners. We look forward to seeing all of the great things the SHS Ag Program continues to achieve in 2025!
